✅ What We Love

  • Large format (12–16oz) for longer burn and stronger throw
  • High fragrance oil concentration = scent reaches further
  • Works in open-concept and large living spaces
  • Burns for 60–80 hours per large jar
  • Often includes multiple wicks for even wax pooling

⚠️ Worth Knowing

  • Higher upfront cost ($30–50 per candle)
  • Requires trimming wick more carefully to avoid soot
  • May be too strong for smaller rooms or bedrooms
  • Essential oil quality can vary — some use fragrance blends to achieve strong throw

Practitioner's Take

Most aromatherapy candles are designed for 200–300 sq ft rooms. If you have an open-concept living/dining/kitchen space (400–600 sq ft), a standard 8oz candle barely registers. You need a larger format with higher fragrance concentration. This is a category worth spending on.

Full Review

A candle that works beautifully in a 10x12 bedroom is nearly useless in an open-plan living space. Scent throw is about fragrance oil concentration and burn surface area — both increase with candle size. What determines strong scent throw: fragrance oil concentration (8–12% is standard, 12–15% is high concentration), wax pool diameter (larger diameter = more fragrance released per hour), wick size (larger wick creates bigger flame and wax pool, releasing more fragrance). Large room recommendations: minimum 10oz candle with single wick, or 8oz with dual wicks. What to avoid: standard 6–8oz candles in open spaces (you will not smell them from more than 6 feet away), scent throws achieved purely through synthetic fragrance concentration.
